Family Weekend

Family Weekend Fall 2026

Explore your student's college experience during Family Weekend! This annual event offers families the opportunity to feel the hustle and bustle of Iowa's campus during one of the city's most beautiful seasons. Families can expect to celebrate all aspects of campus, whether that is an athletic event, programming organized by a student organization, or a theatrical performance. We will publish the program schedule in July and will communicate with you via email leading up to the event.

During Family Weekend, on Saturday, September 19, the Iowa Hawkeyes will face the University of Northern Iowa Panthers at the historic Kinnick Stadium. Those who register by 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, will receive an informational email on Thursday, July 2, with a code, granting early access to purchase football tickets on Monday, July 6, before they go on sale to the general public (July 16). We expect this game to sell-out and registering for Family Weekend early does not guarantee you will be able to secure football tickets. There will be additional programming available on Saturday for families who are not interested in attending the football game.

To ensure a smooth registration process, please read the following before advancing to the next page:

1. Primary contact and email:
we recommend this be the primary family member registering. A confirmation email along with any future communications regarding the weekend will be sent to this email address. To avoid missing important updates and information, use an email address you frequently check and double check spelling before submitting.

2. Student HawkID: your student's HawkID is required to register. This is usually a combination of first and last name and is different than their 8-digit student ID number. Check with your Hawkeye in advance or visit this site for more information. If you have multiple current students at the University, you will only need one student's information to verify current enrollment status.

3. Add-On Events: while most fees are covered within registration, there is an add-on events page for families who wish to purchase additional meal tickets (3 provided), single use recreational facility passes, and/or tickets to attend our annual Dance Marathon Sunday brunch. 100% of the proceeds from the DM brunch tickets directly benefits UI Dance Marathon.

4. Family Weekend Registration Fee:
there is a $55.00 fee per family, not per guest, to attend Family Weekend. This fee covers the cost of Family Weekend administration, facility rentals, staff, and programming fees. Each registered family will receive a Hawkeye Family swag bag and 3 complimentary meal tickets for you to enjoy a meal in one of our on-campus Market Places. The final registration page will require payment. Please have a credit card ready.

5. Guests: while your registration fee covers event attendance for your family, despite how many guests you have, we only provide you with 3 on-campus meal tickets. If your student has an active meal plan, they will not need a ticket. If you have additional guests over 3 or your student no longer has an on-campus meal plan, we recommend purchasing additional tickets through our add-on option. Please try and list all guests within registration. If you have any changes after registering, you can share this with our team when you check-in for the weekend. No need to email us!

6. Fee Waiver Requests: we are offering up to 80 registration fee waivers ($55.00 value) for families of students with financial need as demonstrated by their financial aid package. If your student is eligible for a Federal Pell Grant or low-income (SAI of $0), your family may qualify for a fee waiver for Family Weekend. If you are eligible and want to apply, please email us at ui-parents@uiowa.edu with your student's HawkID and date of birth before registering. Those who register first, without the unique code, will not be able to be refunded. NOTE: The fee waiver only covers the base rate for Family Weekend. Families who wish to purchase tickets for any additional events will still pay for those tickets along with any additional costs associated with the weekend.

7. Refunds: we understand things happen and your plans may change as we get closer to the program date. At this time, we are unable to process refunds or provide a credit for future programs.

If you have additional questions related to Family Weekend, please email ui-parents@uiowa.edu or call 319-335-3557. Continue to check our website over the summer months for schedule updates and new information to help you make the most of your time with us!
