Deaf/Hard of Hearing Services Student Assistant
Rate of Pay: $15.00/hour

Assist with the provision of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Academic Accommodations approved through Student Disability Services.
Responsibilities
• • Perform simple clerical duties such as copying, scanning and filing
• • Assist in data entry
• • Monitoring departmental emails
• • Review course syllabi and ICON information for exam schedules and days off
• • Communicate with faculty, staff and students
• • Support students and faculty in understanding the accommodation process
• • Conduct classroom and Zoom visits to support instructors and students in setting up remote captioning or interpreting
• • Basic Audio/Visual technology trouble shooting
• • Provide quality assurance through reviewing classroom documents and vendor materials for errors
• • Exhibit behavior expected of a professional and respect confidential information
• • Attend staff meetings and professional development trainings as scheduled by supervisor or department
• • Support and respect people who identity as Deaf or Hard of Hearing through ongoing education into Deaf culture

Qualifications
• • Must have completed at least 30 semester hours
• • Registered UI Student in good conduct and academic standing
• • Demonstrate knowledge and commitment to creating a welcoming and respectful environment
• • Ability to work with students with various disabilities, learning styles, and needs
• • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
• • Working experience with computer systems
• • Must be punctual and dependable
• • Some knowledge of Deaf/Hard of Hearing culture and communication skills in American Sign Language or other signed language preferred
