Catering Associate

Responsible for the operation of scheduled shifts including set-up, service, and clean-up of events. Make independent decisions and exercise good judgment in absence of a supervisor. Provide leadership and serve as a professional role model.

Responsibilities

• Assist Supervisor in supervising, overseeing and coordinating catering staff’s activities including timely packing, set-up, service, and clean-up of all assigned catering events.
• Assign and oversee specific tasks to student staff members while providing guidance and training.
• Phone employees when necessary. Communicate all information regarding tardiness, absences, and exemplary behavior to supervisors.
• Responsible for reading and understanding BEOs, overseeing the packing process, and checking/ pulling food from the kitchen.
• After fully reading and reviewing the event BEO, ask clarifying questions as needed.
• Responsible for checking out keys and returning them to the proper location
• Ensure all items needed for the event make it onto the truck and the truck leaves OTD on time.
• Handle requests and inquiries from customers with a confident and positive manner. Go above and beyond to please the customer and provide excellent customer service.
• In the absence of a supervisor or student manager complete a detailed supervisor report and send to appropriate individuals. If supervisor or student manager is present, assist in filling out the report.
• Working knowledge of proper usage, cleaning, fixing and returning of food and equipment.
• Direct, assign, and participate in the completion of the closing list.
• Perform additional duties as necessary, always asking for help when needed!

Qualifications

• Minimum of one semester working as a Catering Assistant for University Catering.
• Must be available to work evenings, early mornings, and/or weekends and be okay with flexible schedules.
• Must be available to work at least 1 home football games, during finals week, and holiday breaks as needed.
• Exhibit excellent communications skills, written and verbal, and be positive and respectful while working in a diverse environment.
• Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Demonstrate commitment to excellent customer service.
• Working knowledge of Hancher, delivery truck, and bartending operations

• PREFERRED SKILLS
• Valid driver’s license and ability to meet and maintain the University Fleet Safety Program driving standards.
• Proficient University Catering bartending skill

You will learn “real world” work skills such as time management, conflict resolution, balancing priorities, managing finances, interpersonal communication, customer service experience, working with people from diverse backgrounds and working as part of a team. Although your job in the Division of Student Life may not be directly related to your future profession, the skills you learn here will help you in your chosen career path and give you valuable work experience to strengthen your resume.
