Dining Lead (Student Position)

Responsible for coordinating all aspects of student employment at Market Place. Will help coordinate workload with Market Place manager. Make independent decisions and exercise good judgment in the absence of a full-time supervisor.
Responsibilities
• Supervise, schedule and coordinate new student hiring processes. Maintain central email account.
• Conduct orientations of new student employees and train in new positions.
• Phone employees when necessary. Communicate all information regarding tardiness, absences, and exemplary behavior to supervisors.
• Update online attendance tracking tool daily.
• Communicate effectively with student leads to coordinate student staffing.
• Responsible for contributing to performance evaluations for student employees, following all HR guidelines and procedures.
• Complete student schedules in a timely manner and email to students.
• Obtain knowledge of sanitation and safety policies and procedures. Utilize knowledge to help train employees and ensure standards are being met. Track compliance reporting.
• Ensure and track proper start dates for students and completion of paperwork with student employment desk.
• May participate in student investigatory meetings and create letters of discipline as needed; forward letters to Market Place Manager for approval before sending to Human Resources.
• Handle requests and inquiries from customers and guests in a positive manner. Handle last minute requests.
• Train, direct and inspect the work of student staff. Provide leadership and serve as a professional role model.
• Participate in management team meetings.
• May be asked to open and close Late Night operation independently. Perform assigned job responsibilities independent of management supervision.
• Might be Responsible for checking out keys to open the assigned areas and returning them after securing the areas for the day.
• Make decisions in emergency situations.
Qualifications
• Enrolled as UI student during academic year.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills and be positive and respectful in working with a diverse population.
• Demonstrated commitment to GREAT customer service.
• Must be able to meet and maintain Cash Handling, Credit Card, ServSafe training requirements per UI and departmental policies and procedures.
• Must be able to work a minimum of 12 hours per week.
• Must be able to work evenings and weekends and be flexible in scheduling.
• Previous supervisory experience is required.
• Must be able to move up to 20 lbs. and stand for long periods of time.
