Communications Assistant

You will assist in the development and implementation of marketing and communications campaigns for the Division of Student Life and other campus offices. Through direct contact with partners and our internal teams, you brainstorm creative ideas, develop project timelines, and help deliver a quality, on-time product. After completion, you apply analytical skills to measure campaign success.

Responsibilities

• Meet regularly with partners to discuss daily needs and long-term plans associated with their advertising and promotional activities
• Provide input to marketing and communications plans for partners under direction of the manager
• Create project management orders and process with communications, design, and digital teams
• Assist communications specialist with miscellaneous projects
• Follow up with partners to ensure effective project management
• Assist in execution of long-term strategic communications plans, including social media, web content, print, and digital media

Qualifications

• Candidates should be majoring in marketing, communication studies, journalism, and mass communication or a related area of study
• Resume is required
• Some computer experience
• Valid driver's license is preferred
• One-year commitment is required. You may start first or second semester, but you must be available to work the first summer of employment. All subsequent summers are not required.

What you will learn

You will learn to orchestrate marketing, social media, and communication campaigns in an efficient, creative, and timely manner. Through direct contact with both the Division of Student Life departments, campus partners, and creative team members, you garner the skills associated with teamwork, collaboration, and leadership. Some financial tracking skills may be learned in association with the in-house billing system. Although your job in the Division of Student Life may not be directly related to your future profession, the skills you learn here will help you in your chosen career path and give you valuable work experience to strengthen your resume. You can expect to learn skills such as time management, branding, audience and platform centered writing, balancing priorities, managing finances, interpersonal communication, customer services experience, working with people from diverse backgrounds, and working as part of a team.
